Battle Lab
Where innovation meets collaboration
Introducing the Battle Lab
We have recently opened a Battle Lab at our headquarters in Ottawa – an incubator for our engineers, industry partners, and Army customers to come together and accelerate innovation for an evolving battlespace.
“We are committed to an ecosystem of innovation and collaboration; engaging a broad base of Canadian industry to enable the Canadian Army to evolve and adopt the right solutions to effectively meet their operational needs.”
– Andrew Shepherd, Vice President, Land & Joint Mission Systems.
The Battle Lab does not seek to simply deliver demonstrations for experimentation’s sake, but rather to facilitate rapid experimentation to advance capabilities for integration and deployment to Canadian soldiers.
The lessons we are learning from the real-time feedback we receive from our side-by-side engagements with the Canadian Army on bases across Canada and in our support of Operation REASSURANCE in Latvia can be taken into the Battle Lab and applied to improve Canadian soldiers’ experience with our technology and ultimately provide operational advantage in theatre.
The work being done within the Battle Lab is also being used to augment General Dynamics’ DIGITALspine taking into consideration the changing operational context and the need for integrated tactical networks to be adaptable and interoperable, easy to integrate with, and able to optimize to work in contested environments.
It’s the ability to ideate, design, develop, and test in this new and collaborative way that unlocks so much value for Canada. It also exists to showcase emerging capabilities which, through continuous development, can be rapidly scaled to transform C4ISR capabilities.

Turning Data Into Decisions
Using General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada’s DIGITALspine as a data-centricity enabler, the Canadian Army will realize game changing gains in decision-making power and operational effectiveness. Learn how in this Vanguard Magazine article.
Bringing Integrated Comms to Operation REASSURANCE
We recently sat down to chat with Canadian Defence Review about our experience sending multi-faceted teams to Latvia to support the rapid deployment and integration of C5ISR capability, leveraging DIGITALspine, for the Canadian Army as part of Operation REASSURANCE.
