In celebration of National Engineering Month, we will highlight our organization’s talent to inspire the next generation of innovators and aspiring engineers. Colleagues will share their stories, pathways to success, and what ultimately led them to an impressive and impactful career.
Solving the world’s most complex problems and working with the world’s most advanced technologies – that’s what Stephen Ng Ying Kin believes engineering is all about. While studying at Polytechnique Montréal in Biomedical Engineering, he realized his true calling involved finding ways to constantly innovate.
“I threw myself into every facet and grew really fond of the systematic approach."
After graduation, Stephen truly immersed himself in the world of engineering and gained invaluable experience in the medical sector, where he had the opportunity to partake in R&D and work with robotics. Not only did this position gear him up for success, it allowed him to flourish and further develop his skills preparing him for his next adventure in the defence industry.
Stephen joined General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada in the summer of 2021 and works as a Test Engineer – focusing on the software development and hardware integration of our Smart Displays’ automated test systems. One of the many things Stephen loves about working with us is the opportunity to “find technical solutions that support the function of our society.” He emphasizes that engineering furthers the limits of technology and bridges gaps that may be found.
When asked for advice to share with those starting a similar career in engineering, Stephen highlights the importance of striving for continuous improvement and remaining humble: “It’s okay if you do not know the answer right away – always try to look for solutions and ask questions.”
